Fusion 7.1.2 - Corrupted Update File - How to Remove?

$
0
0

I just tried updating from Mac Fusion 7.1.1 to 7.1.2.

The download seemed to work, but when the files we checked for validation, the VM Core file was found to be corrupt, and the update aborted.

So I decided to try again - only this time, Fusion did not attempt to do any downloading: instead, it simply tried to validate and expand the previously downloaded update files. The VM Core update once again reported as corrupted, and the update aborted.

I've tried rewinding to a backup version of Fusion using Time Machine, but even then, the update finds and tries to open the existing download files, including the corrupted VM Core,

The BIG question is this: How do I force a fresh download of the corrupted VM Core Update file?

I don't even know where to find the file, so I can manually delete it.

Help, please, anyone!

Thanks in advance,

Brian

VM disks deleted from datastor when not included in json config post to rest api

Does anyone know if it's expected behavior to delete a vmdk from a datastore when it's not included in the json config submission to the rest service? e.g: I decide to grow hard disk 2 and exclude hard disk one cause it isn't being changed:

example of original config:

"value": "[{\"Id\":0,\"Capacity\":60,\"CapacityMin\":60,\"Device\":null,\"Label\":null,\"VolumeId\":\"SCSI (0:0)\",\"ExternalId\":\"6000C29b-b3fd-dec0-afdf-3b62ec4a8595\",\"StoragePath\":\"t880fb01\",\"StoragePolicy\":null,\"Properties\":[{\"PropertyName\":\"Name\",\"PropertyValue\":\"Hard disk 1\",\"IsHidden\":false,\"IsRuntime\":false,\"IsEncrypted\":false}],\"NoDelete\":true,\"NoEdit\":false,\"NoEditStoragePolicy\":true,\"NoEditProperties\":true,\"IsClone\":false},{\"Id\":1,\"Capacity\":14,\"CapacityMin\":12,\"Device\":null,\"Label\":null,\"VolumeId\":\"SCSI (0:1)\",\"ExternalId\":\"6000C299-a22a-200f-6b63-1937de692dbc\",\"StoragePath\":\"t880fb01\",\"StoragePolicy\":null,\"Properties\":[{\"PropertyName\":\"Name\",\"PropertyValue\":\"Hard disk 2\",\"IsHidden\":false,\"IsRuntime\":false,\"IsEncrypted\":false}],\"NoDelete\":false,\"NoEdit\":false,\"NoEditStoragePolicy\":true,\"NoEditProperties\":true,\"IsClone\":false},{\"Id\":2,\"Capacity\":20,\"CapacityMin\":20,\"Device\":null,\"Label\":null,\"VolumeId\":\"SCSI (0:2)\",\"ExternalId\":\"6000C291-6a9c-985d-197f-991d6c2361b5\",\"StoragePath\":\"t880fb01\",\"StoragePolicy\":null,\"Properties\":[{\"PropertyName\":\"Name\",\"PropertyValue\":\"Hard disk 3\",\"IsHidden\":false,\"IsRuntime\":false,\"IsEncrypted\":false}],\"NoDelete\":false,\"NoEdit\":false,\"NoEditStoragePolicy\":true,\"NoEditProperties\":true,\"IsClone\":false}]"

adjusted config to grow disk with id "1":

{\"Id\":1,\"Capacity\":20,\"CapacityMin\":12,\"Device\":null,\"Label\":null,\"VolumeId\":\"SCSI (0:1)\",\"ExternalId\":\"6000C299-a22a-200f-6b63-1937de692dbc\",\"StoragePath\":\"t880fb01\",\"StoragePolicy\":null,\"Properties\":[{\"PropertyName\":\"Name\",\"PropertyValue\":\"Hard disk 2\",\"IsHidden\":false,\"IsRuntime\":false,\"IsEncrypted\":false}],\"NoDelete\":false,\"NoEdit\":false,\"NoEditStoragePolicy\":true,\"NoEditProperties\":true,\"IsClone\":false}

submitting the last config rather than editing the first results the deletion of the other two vmdks from the datastore ....

I am getting this error:

vCenter Orchestrator workflow Pre-create AD computer account in OU failed with error: Error executing vCenter Orchestrator workflow: java.lang.NullPointerException (Workflow:Pre-create AD computer account in OU / Get OU & domain name (item3)#41)..

when using the Active Directory Plugin to try to move the computer to the correct OU. I did not set this up and am wondering what service account tries to perform the Move.  Where is that service account defined? Sorry I am new to this and could use the help. When I do my destroy it is able to delete the computer OK but I get a similiar error:

HP ProLiant ML150 Gen9 with HBA H240 = slow local datastore ?

Hi,

a few days ago a received a new ProLinat ML150 G9 server. This server comes with the H240 Raid Controller. The onboard B140i controller is disabled.

After installation with the HP custom image 5.5 u2 i got a poor performance on the local datastore. The locial volume = datastore1 is a RAID1 Array with 2 * 1 TB 2,5" disks (7200rpm, 6G SATA, HotPlug).

After reading a lot of postings on different HP server types, i downgraded the HBA driver to 'scsi-hpvsa-5.5.0-88OEM.550.0.0.1331820.x86_64.vib' . The performance increased, but is still bad.

The write speed by small blocks is very bad. I could not belive that this is the maximum speed of this new server. Has anyone a similar system running on a better performance?

H240.pngQNAP.png

The left picture is the poor local datastore performance, the right picture is the same server, same VM with datastore on a QNAP with NFS connection.

I made the performance checks with only one Windows7-64 Bit VM and ATTO Disk Benchmark 32_247. Nothing else running on this server.

Can somebody help me to find the issue?

Greetings Joachim

Does Vcloud Air support HA/Clustering for SQL Server 2008 or 2012? We currently have one SQL 2008, and are exploring ideas to introduce HA to our setup. Any information or documentation would greatly help, and if I need to provide more details, please let me know. I'm in the early stages of research at this point.

Lost access to local datastore

Hi folks:

I have ESXi 6.0 running on an Intel S2600CWTS motherboard using the onboard LSI SAS controller and six Samsung 850 Pro SSD drives in a RAID 5 configuration.  This server is about a month and a half old, and it worked fine for the first month, but in the last couple of weeks I've started seeing messages in the event log saying that ESXi has lost access to the datastore, and then, most of the time, about 15 seconds later access is restored.   A few times it took longer, one of which crashed the server.  On those longer times the Intel motherboard event log showed that a drive had failed and started a rebuild, and on another time the motherboard showed that two different drives had failed and it took them both offline causing ESXi to crash.  On the latter I was able to bring both drives back online through the RAID bios and everything worked fine again.  I'm doubting that I've got hard drive problems as these drives are new, and because different drives were reported as failing, and also because no data was lost even when 2 drives went offline at the same time.   I suppose I could have a bad LSI controller, or a cable has come loose somewhere, but I would expect data loss to happen if that's really the case.

I also noticed that the lost access messages tend to appear in the log the instant I start a VM.  At first I thought it might be a throughput thing, figuring that a starting VM does a lot of I/Os, but this happens immediately, even before the VM bios screen disappears, so I don't think the VM is actually reading the disk yet.  Also, as a precaution I started migrating some VMs off the server to the old server that I still had available, and there were no lost access messages in the event log while that was going on, even though about 50 megabytes per second of I/Os were hitting the disk during the transfers.  I put the latest patch on ESXi in mid-May, about two weeks before this started, and I'm beginning to suspect that the patch may have something to do with it, as it looks to me as if something is happening between ESXi and the disk controller causing it to hang up or lose interrupts for a short period of time, and I'm wondering if that goes on long enough if the hardware sensors in the motherboard interpret that as some sort of hardware failure and simply mark whichever drives whose I/O's were hung up at the time as bad.

Unfortunately I'm out of town right now so I didn't want to anymore than I had to to the server remotely out of fear that I could cause it not to come back up.  I've moved a couple of the more critical VMs to the old server which I was able to remotely boot up and transfer the VMs to.  I also noticed that this issue tended to occur more frequently when I started up the VCenter Server appliance than any other (it happens sometimes to the others but happened every time I tried to start up the VCenter appliance).  Therefore that was the first one I moved back to the old server, but interestingly enough there were no errors logged when I transferred the files, so the issue isn't that ESXi had trouble reading the VMs vmdk file when I started it up.

I also wanted to ask if there are any vibs for the LSI Megaraid controller on the S2600CWTS motherboard that I could install which would allow me to access the RAID controller without having to take the server down and do it from the BIOS setup screens, similar to how you can access Dell's RAID controller while ESXi is running via an add-on vib.  So far I haven't found one.

My intention when I get home to the server is to run an integrity check against the RAID 5 array through the controller, and then use the VOMA ESXi utility on the datastore to see if something is wrong there.  If not, then I guess I'll backout the May patch.

Thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Is Quiescing Needed on a File Server?

We have a Server 2012R2 VM (ESXi6) that is a large file server.  Is it necessary or recommended to use Quiescing when performing backups of a file server?  I'm concerned that if Quiescing is not used we may end up with corrupt data or file system.  What is the worse that can happen if Quiescing is not used for backups of a File Server?

Unable to access VDP Configuration Manager or FLR from Chrome

I have noticed that I am unable to access both the VDP Configuration Manager or FLR from chrome starting in the last couple weeks.  It looks like the VDP appliance is still using a self-signed certificate signed with the SHA-1 algorithm and I wonder if that is cause.  Has anyone else noticed this?  If so is there a way to reissue the certificate so chrome will accept it?  I have noticed this on both VDP 5.5.8 and 6.

HTML-Bridge iframe and JS function

I have been able to use the html-bridge to create an iframe accessing a dynamic url with the following method.

Plugin.xml:

   <extension id="com.atos.bullion.extjsbullion.shcView">

      <extendedPoint>com.atos.bullion.extjsbullion.summaryViews</extendedPoint>

      <object>

         <name>SHC</name>

         <componentClass className="com.vmware.vsphere.client.htmlbridge.HtmlView">

            <object>

               <root>

                  <url>/vsphere-client/extjsbullion/resources/bullion-shc.html</url>

               </root>

            </object>

         </componentClass>

      </object>

   </extension>

Inside the body of bullion-shc.html:

<div id="header"></div><iframe id=shcFrame sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-pointer-lock allow-forms" width="100%" style="position: absolute; height: 100%; border: none" src="https://{shc}"></iframe>

Although when i try to navigate within the iframe, the browser console returns a "InvalidAccessError: A parameter or an operation is not supported by the underlying object" error and frame does nothing.

I did some research on the matter..

This is not supported due to the window i am trying to access uses a function(window.open) that creates an inAppBrowser object and returns null.

Meanwhile the iframe object on the html-bridge is expecting an iframe object..

Is there any possible work around without reimplementing the window i am trying to access.

running vpxa start

After running for 2 years or so, I updated my ESXi 5.5 to 6.0. The update itself went fine (used the offline depot zip). After restarting, ESXi starts but seems to be stuck at "running vpxa start". I waited for 10 minutes, nothing. I tried rebooting twice with the same result. I then reverted back to 5.5 which started fine as expected.

The ESXi server is part of a vCenter cluster, vCenter 6.0 appliance was already upgraded.

Any ideas how to solve this?

HP Proliant Dl160 G6 extra noise appeared

Hi there guys! I am not really sure if this is the right place for this kind of question, but excuse me if it is not.

Yestarday i've bought an HP Proliant Dl160 G6.

For the first time i've connect it to the power supply it started by it self.

In the first one minute while it was loading the server was a bit noisy but after it loaded it, the server became very silent. On the same time when it gave an signal to the monitor connected to the server, the server became really silent.

Today i've shutted down the server from the vSphere cliend and i've disconnected the server from this room and connected it into another.

But strangelly today when i start the server again it became even louder when it loaded everything and started the signal to the monitor.

What can be the reason for that when there is anything else different from yesterday. The server does not have any extra pressure from the same that it has yesterday, what can be the reason and how i can make my server quiet like it was ?

Thanks in advance!

vCenter trial mode managing Essentials kit ESXi6.0 hosts, yet vCenter Standard key added and will no longer manage essentials license

$

Hey all,

I have a small client that owned a essentials kit that they use for test dev.   They wanted to start virtualizing their production servers and have a off site copy of their VMs for DR. The original solution was a 3 host single CPU vSAN cluster with vC foundation and then a off site location that had a single 2CPU host with a lot of DAS and a second vC foundation replication via vSphere replication.  They were wondering if they could manage all 3 clusters through vCenter standard.  I said I I wasn't sure, as essentials were are supposed to be self contained. I said to put vc  in trial mode and see if you could manage the essentials licenses.   They put VC in trial mode it worked and could manage the essentials hosts, but when they added the vC Standard key the essentials hosts no longer connected the VC.   Anyone know if their is a work around for this? If not, its not that big of a deal as they can deploy the second vC licenses that came with the essentials kit, its just a annoyance.

Here was my thought process on all of this. my assumption was that if the host could connect in trial mode then they would be able to do the same in VC Standard as the ESXi host license were not in trial mode.

Thanks for the help.

lost access to volume

$

I am running ESXi on 3 different machines at high load (cpu + disk), and I am encountering the following error event:

Lost access to volume GUID (XXX) due to connectivity issues. Recovery attempt is in progress and outcome will be reported shortly. 3/21/2015 3:48:57 PM

shortly thereafter, access is restored:

Successfully restored access to volume  GUID (XXX) following  connectivity issues. 3/21/2015 3:49:24 PM

Interestingly, these events occur exactly every 6 hours on each affected machine:

2015-03-21T13:39:01.303Z cpu30:32857)HBX: 270: Reclaimed heartbeat for volume GUID (XXX): [Timeout] Offset 3796992

2015-03-21T19:39:13.824Z cpu20:32855)HBX: 270: Reclaimed heartbeat for volume GUID (XXX): [Timeout] Offset 3796992

2015-03-22T01:39:09.569Z cpu0:32856)HBX: 270: Reclaimed heartbeat for volume GUID (XXX): [Timeout] Offset 3796992

Most of the search results (and the VMware KB) discuss issues related to FC/iSCSI/network connected datastores. However, these datastores are local disks connected to a MegaRAID SAS controller.

The fact that this occurs every 6 hours made me think there was some sort of cronjob or the like that was running and causing a whole bunch of disk churn, which, combined with an already high disk load, was clogging up the controller. However, I can't find any such cronjob in /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root. I've checked several logs in /var/log, and nothing is jumping out anywhere around those time frames. I've updated to the latest ESXi patches, but that didn't help. Any ideas?

FWIW, my hw/sw is:

ESXi 5.5.0, 2456374

SuperMicro X10-DRHC

MegaRaid SAS Invader Controller (LSI 3108 SAS3)

3 consumer SSD drives in RAID0 (for the affected datastore)

I am having an issue with a plugin developed for 5.1. Works fine with both web client 5.1 and 5.5.

I am trying to deploy the same plugin in web client 6.0 and made following changes with reference of this link for compatibility:

2 Important reminders for your 5.5 plugin to be compatible with Web Client 6.0

-  Changed Web-ContextPath, vsphere-client/plugin-name in MANIFEST.MF

-  Configured two default channels, amf and secure-amf, in services-config.xml and remote-config.xml. :

After these changes, I was able to resolve the "Unable to load resource module..." errors. And I am able to see the icon of my plugin.

I made changes to my own proxy(CustomProxy) class to use ServiceUtil.getDefaultChannelUri(). I have added ServiceUtil code to my plugin instead upgrading from SDK 5.1 to SDK 5.5.2.

Now getting following error upon clicking the plugin icon:

"VerifyError: Error #1053: Illegal Override of CustomProxy...". Please find the screenshot of the flash player error attached.

Could somebody guide to possible cause and resolution for the issue?

Thanks.

In View 5.1, you could do a multi-vlan pool with a few CLI commands.  However, in doing so, every time you changed gold images, you would have to update your script. (http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=4730)  I read a rumor that this is much easier in 6.  Hoowever, I was unable to find documentation.  Any ideas?

Service unreachable Reference error REPO404

Hi,

I'm receiving an error when trying to validate to the vCAC portal with credentials that are from a trusted domain to the domain my vCAC solution is on. I am able to add the account to the vCAC Administrators group and have even tried adding the trusted domain user accounts to a security group within the domain the vCAC servers are on and adding that for permission but i keep receiving the attached error. The trust is working and validated. Has anyone experienced this problem before? I am using vCAC 5.2 FP2

vCenter 5.1 SSO and failure to successfully authenticate users

$
0
0

I have experienced this problem with the 5.1 upgrade including the latest 5.1.0b. In fact the latest patch makes it impossible to add users explicitly via the vSphere client whereas previously I could do this.

The problem description is as follows:

  • Users do not authenticate via the web client or via vSphere client
  • Users receive the error "Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password" on the vSphere client
  • Users receive the error "The authentication server returned an unexpected error: ns0:RequestFailed: Internal Error while creating SAML 2.0 Token. The error may be caused by a malfunctioning identity source.

Things I have tried:

  • I have followed this article but the solution re: RPC server not available does not apply as this does not appear in the logs @ http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2034798
  • Added new domain users
  • Explicitly added users in the vSphere client giving them full administrative privileges and propogating to all child objects
  • Domain groups which the users are part of (IT Operations) are added under SSO administrators group (SSO Users and Groups --> Groups --> __Administrators__ have the principals 'ITOperations' and 'Domain Admins' - they are both Active Directory groups)

Observations:

  • Putting the user in the 'Domain Admins' group allows the user to successfully log-in to both vSphere and web clients - obviously this is not a practical solution to the problem but unsure as to why it works - members of the IT Operations group can successfully log-in to the vCenter server so also unsure as to what permissions would be required for this to work.
  • Granting users explicit access via the vSphere client used to work in previous version of 5.1.0 - with 5.1.0b the users get the "Cannot complete login" error

Our set-up:

  • vCenter sits on Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
  • Active Directory runs in our environment and handles all log-ins - SSO should be set-up to intergrate itself with AD but not sure why it's not working
  • 1 ESXi 5.0 host
