Hello,
after reinstalling VMWare Player 7 I can't start any of my old vm neither new ones. I made sure that permissions of the file/drive are set correctly and checked the Authorization-Service (it's running). Did a couple of restarts - but no improvements.
The Error I get is:
Error while powering on: VMware Player cannot connect to the virtual machine. Make sure you have rights to run the program, access all directories the program uses, and access all directories for temporary files.
Failed to connect pipe to virtual machine: Unknown error 2 (0x2).
Any clue?
Host is Windows 8 and vm are different systems (Windows, Linux,...). None of them is working.

Bug - Snapshot of 2012R2 VM Takes 10min When Shadow Copies are enabled
When taking a snapshot of a running Server 2012R2 VM with the option "quiesce guest file system" checked, it takes 10min. That status of the task hits 100% after only 30 seconds, but it does not show as "Complete" until exactly 10min after the status hits 100%. It does this every time. It appears to be hitting some sort of timeout. The cause for this is that within the Windows OS, I have Shadow Copies configured to be saved to a volume other than itself. Please see the image below. In this situation Shadow Copies for volume E are being saved to volume T. If shadow copies for volume F are being saved to volume F, this problem DOES NOT occur. This problem also DOES NOT occur if I select snapshot Virtual Machine Memory nor does it occur when the VM memory and Quiesceing are left unchecked. I have taken screen shots of the VSS errors I receive in the VM. I can recreate this problem on 2 different hosts with different VM's. Both ESXi 6 hosts have the latest ESXi patch that fixes various VSS issues.
I have three questions:
1. Is snapshoting a Windows VM with Shadow Copies enabled on a secondary volume supported?
2. This operation eventually completes, but because of the errors, is it really completing correctly? Is the data really getting quiesed properly?
3. Is there any way to fix this? Please advise

cannot connect to directory service when adding identity store
I have a AD domain setup with Dc called
dc.ad.local
from he vrealize automation appliance, I tried to add a tenant identity store
gave it the URL

but keeps failing and give error

Bug: Infinite recursion in vmware-tools-vmxnet-common postinstall trigger if $ENV{TMPDIR} points to non-existing directory
I've encountered an interesting problem installing package vmware-tools-vmxnet-common in some special (maybe even abnormal) conditions:
In my case, enviroment variable TMPDIR pointed to non-existing directory (I installed package using yum with non-default --installroot parameter value),
and postinstall trigger in this package that calls vmware-config.pl runs into infinite recursion in getTmpDir subroutine, continously printing following:
Temp directory XXXXXXX does not exist.
It leads to memory exhaustion and scriptlet failure (which is considered as non-fatal by package manager, however => package installation was "succesful".)
Have a look on this function in vmware-config.pl:

In my case, TMPDIR is set, so we'll use it as a temporary directory. But, warning() function uses getTmpDir too! (see logging_getFilePath function, which is used in warning -> logging_logMessage -> logging_openLogFile).
So it produces infinite recursive call ladder until stack overflow occurs. Moreover, it produced a 700Mb output of a log file on my box - that's why I've discovered this issue
I don't provide a patch for this, because this could be fixed in plenty of ways - I don't realize which is better.
As for me, I'd preffer to change warning() call to die() - it's really abnormal condition and is a reason to stop any further work.

Teradici APEX offload card / CPU scaling
Hey all,
I'm not quite certain yet how the Teradici APEX 2800 card would positively affect a virtual desktop environment during non contention periods. My understanding is that it offloads the 100 busiest virtual desktops CPU (well the displays of it i.e. PCoIP processing) to the card. What I don't understand is how this would enable me to put more virtual machines on one single host than without the Apex card i.e. increase density?
I mean, why would I suddenly be able to run more virtual desktops on a host? It doesn't really offload CPU utilization caused by for example video playback. It only offloads the displays PCoIP processing which is only responsible for about 20% of the overall CPU utilization of a VM.
Could anyone explain this to me?
What I'm trying to achieve is smooth 720p full screen playback. But testing has shown that I need to assign at least 4vCPU to the virtual desktops to achieve this goal. And this drastically reduces the number of virtual machines which I can put on a host.
Any hints how I could achieve smooth 720p full screen playback, highly appreciated.

Writable volume change with profile
Hey Guys,
Don't know if any of you read the release notes but I was shocked when reading the below part of the Writable volume change.
For us this was the unique selling point of Appvolumes and it's writable volume, not worrying about profiles and applications anymore and providing a pooled floating desktop
If they are to actually follow through with this it I would again have 2 points were I need to safe user data, 1 in the writable volume, 1 in the UEM Profile folder (and maybe even the redirected folder).
Also, something like an Offline Outlook file or settings stored in Localappdata will no longer be managed.
For me it seems like VMWare is actually killing it's darling here, no idea who ever came up with this brilliant idea.
Would love to hear other users point of view though.

Deploying OVF Template works in vSphere Client but not Web Client
I'm working through a variety of vSphere training labs. One issue keeps haunting me. When I try to deploy an OVF template (such as vCOps, vMA, and so forth), it works fine when using the vSphere Client. But when I try to deploy it using the vSphere Web Client, it fails with messages like the user cancelled the session. It seems related to some sort of connectivity issue, but I've turned off the firewalls, tested connectivity with pings, and so forth. All is fine. Any thoughts?

Help newbie write a powerCLI script
Hi
I want to set the config on all VM's that have a specific tag.
Basically want to work through all the vm's on each host on each cluster at each site. check if the vm has a specific tag say "DOME" and then I want to set the latency sensitivity setting to high. I also want to set the resource schedule to high for CPU and say set the min value to 200 and also lock the vm entire memory.
I have installed powerCLI v6, but have VC 5.5u2. just starting the upgrade process to V6

"Operating system not found" when installing an OS
Whenever I try to install an OS, it takes me to a black screen and gives me two errors: "No boot filename received" and "Operating system not found. I have tried installing multiple OSes and all of them gave me this error.

Bridged Network Connection Problems in VMware Workstation 11
I'm having bridged network connection problems in VMware Workstation 11. So far, I've tried:

So far, neither of the solutions worked. I've turned off "Large Send Offload" on every adapter that I could find on both the host and the guest. Nothing. Restoring these settings in any combination with others turned off didn't work either. I've edited the .vmx file and replace the occurrences with vmxnet3, and that didn't work either. So far nothing I've tried has worked. I've disabled all firewalls and antivirus. Still nothing. When I run the Guest OS Windows Network Diagnostic, I get the, "Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues." However, I know this is not the case. I've also used the "Virtual Network Editor" to force the Bridged connection to select the correct nic (in my case, it's the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 wireless adapter), but still no luck. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

ただ、VMTNの（たぶんやっていると思われる）復旧作業との兼ね合いがわからないので
コンテンツ自体の文字化け修正はしばらくやらずに様子を見ようと思います。

Notifications in vrops 6
So I have setup a notification that works fine generally however I want to ensure that if the alert in question recovers in a reasonable timeframe that the alert is not sent so I have set Delay to notify to 10 minutes, If I know generate an error condition see the alert appear in vrops then fix the error condition it seems the alert is still sent even though I told it to wait 10 mins (and the recovery is def within 10 mins) Is this a bug or am I missing the point here somewhere. (BTW the alert is coming via a connection to Hyperic which has a collection interval of 5 mins)

Failed to get VFlash Cache stats - ESXi 6.0
Hi,
I am seeing this in the vmkernel logs, a lot, I note there is a patch for 5.5 but am unable to find anything for 6.0
Any suggestions or pointers as to what can be done as a fix?

Trouble getting VSAN 6 Storage Providers up and running
Hi!
I have set up a test Environment with Three hosts and disks ssd and so on. Everything goes perfect, vcenter is installed, vsan is up and running But it failes to register the storage providers
Error messages:
Registration/unregistration of a VASA vendor provider on a Virtual SAN host fails
Storage provider resync failed
I can't open the VSAN Default Storage Profile becuase no providers are found. Never had these troubles Before when it was in beta.
any ideas what to look for ?
