Write a property to a VRA Deployment
How can I write a property to a VRA deployment, rather than a VM? If it was a VM I would write to the VCAC:Entity object but want to do this higher up so that all items under the deployment get that property
Power state change messages recorded every day in vlcoud
We are running vCloud 8.1 in multiple sites. I've noticed recently that it seems in all of the vapps in the event section under logs, each VM at certain times will record a message about a power state change. Specifically it says the following:
VM 'VM Name (GUID here) power state change (state=1)
I'll get that message for what seems like every VM, in every vapp across all sites. I haven't been able to find anything just yet on this anywhere. The VM's themselves don't actually have a power state change. Vcenter / ESXi host shows absolutely nothing when those messages get logged. I'm just trying to figure why the events log in vcloud records this every day. Seems to happen around the same time.
Anyone else notice this?
ESXI Cluster dead in the water?
We have a 5 host ESXI cluster using Vsan and Vcenter 6. Each host is hyper converged and has all SSD's. 2 cache drvies, and data drives for each cache drive. To make a long story short our power went out in our second data center. We were not able to do anything, but shut the VM's down so no writes happen to them. Unfortunately we could not put the hosts in maintenance mode, nor did we get the hosts shut down. The issue now is upon power restoration the servers started back up on their own, but all seems to be lost. The cache drives are showing normal, degraded state on each ESXI host, and I cant find what exactly that means anywhere or if this is even part of the issue. We did notice some of the drives LED lights were not on and not fully initialized so we popped the drives out 1 at a time, and let it sit overnight to see if everything rebuilt. Well this morning nothing has happened and it looks like the disks aren't doing much... We have a support ticket in with VMware, but thought i would post here as well.
If anybody has any ideas how we can get up and running again that would be amazing.
Update: 03-02-2017 4:46pm. We ended up getting a hold of support and they had to increase the HEAP size in LSOM and then the hurry up and wait game we are finally back up and running.
Import VRA Basic Clone VM Workflow into Built-In vRO?
Hello All-
I'm just getting started with vRO in VRA 7.2 as I am looking to do some things with my workflows that don't seem to be able to be done with basic blueprints, such as executing SSH/Powershell scripts on remote hosts outside of the vRA deployment. I was windering though, is there an easy way to import the workflow that vRA uses when creating a basic clone vsphere VM blueprint into vRO? I don't really want to re-invent the wheel if I don't have to and create a Clone VM workflow from scratch in vRO to do everything that the vRA workflow already does. It would be nice if I could somehow import it and start with that as my base and then add what I need to it. Does anyone know of a way or am I stuck with creating my workflows from scratch starting with the vRO library workflows?
Win7 x64 Host + Winxp guest + DOS Application Full Screen mode?
While searching for a solution to this I found the exact same question posted on "Experts Exchange" with
a solution quoted as follows:
######
"I have a Win7 x64 host machine with vmware workstation 7.0.1 installed.
I'm trying to test a vm with winxp guest on which i have some legacy dos programs.
I have no problem using them inside guest. The only problem is that for some reason I cannot
fullscreen the dos program's screen when I press ctlr+alt+enter and alt+enter.
I tried different things like changing host's guest's resolution after reading some posts from here but with no luck.
Then I tried to run the same vm on a winxp x32 host machine and voila it is working. I can fullscreen dos windows
just by pressing alt + enter. My question is why this happen on win7 x64? Do I have any chance to make it work on win7 x64?
****** Finally I found it!
I managed to get it full screen by going on the main vmware window Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Strech Guest (no resolution change)
After ticking this option I can run dos programs in full screen!"
#######
The DOS programs ran full screen on my old Win XP machine but when migrated to the new machine with Win 7 Pro, using its
crippled XP mode, the cursed small screen was all I could get. I searched for viable options and VMWare with my full
program XP Sp 3 disk installed appeared to be my best hope. I have tried all the "Expert Exchange" poster's attempts and some others that I
have found on line but all with no results.
I am running VMWare Workstation 12.5.2 (Free, Non-Commercial) and can not find the solution's "Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Strech Guest" option. Does this not exist in
Ver 12.5 or is it a Professional Version only option? f Professional is needed, would my installed Win XP (that works great for all other required tasks) Virtual Machine be affected
by upgrading to obtain this option?
My machine configuration is: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1; Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz, Haswell 22nm Technology process;
32.0 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 RAM, Hewlett-Packard 1905 (SOCKET 0) Motherboard; LG IPS FULLHD (1920x1080@60Hz)Intel HD Graphics 4600 (HP).
If an upgrade will solve my problem I will be back to make the $ Upgrade.
Thanks for any help.

Dual Datacenter Disaster Recovery
I have two datacenters. Each data center has three servers with VMware vSphere 6 Standard, running two VMs on each server. If the primary data center goes down, I want to automatically fail over to three servers at the second data center. What is the most efficient VMWare tool to enable this process?
clipboard manager that runs both on my osx host and in windows vm's
I am having trouble finding a clipboard manager (to see a history of my clipboard) that runs both on my osx host and in windows 7 vm's. I have tried copyq and 1clipboard and they both seem to hang and hog the cpu. Is anybody out there using one clipboard manager that can show clipboard from both osx host and windows vm's?
Problema driver scheda di rete dopo Conversione P2V
Salve a tutti,
Avete qualche suggerimento?
grazie
Andrea
Cleanup after vSAN crash (due to power-failure)
Hello,
We had a total power outage on both our UPS'ses at the same time (yep, you can't make this sh*t up...) causing both power-sections to go **POOF** at the same time.
Our 8 node vSAN 6.2 environment did not really like that but i've cleaned the mess up and it's running again.
All is fine now, but i'm left with 6 components that show up as having an invalid state:
Using RVC and "vsan.cmmds_find" etc. it turns out that these objects no longer seem to exist, as for all these objects in an invalid state, the output looks like this:
That's not a lot of info...
Anyone have a clue on how to get rid of these error messages? They stick like tar. Are these objects really gone or do they still lurk around somewhere? (because the WebGUI keeps displaying them...)
Thanks in advance,
Steve

ESXi Host memory requirements for single VM configuration
Hello All,
We have a host that runs a single (DB) vm (for a variety of historical/political reasons). The host has a large amount of memory (512GB). Since 5.5 ESXi requires a minimum of 4GB of RAM and recommends at least 8GB of memory to take advantage of ESXi features, is there any reason not to allocate 504GB of RAM to the vm?
Thanks for your help!
Upgrade to large disks VMWare ESXI 6.0
Hi! I'm using VMWare ESXI 6.0 on a HP Proliant Server. It have 2 disks in RAID 1, 600GB for the virtual machines.
I want to migrate all to new disks that are already there. 2 disks in RAID 1, 1.2TB.
What is the best way to do that? I want to continue with all data and configuration untouched, like all the configuration (IP and so on) remains the same on my network.
Sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance
Likewise folder in esxi configbundle?
What is the likewise folder? After I ran powercli to get my esxi 6 host configs, I noticed that 2 of the tar files were significantly different in size, even though the hosts are in the same cluster set up similarly. The larger one has a folder named likewise, and the smaller one doesn't.
Thanks.

VRA complex catalog items in SNOW?
Hello,
has anyone exposed in SNOW VRA catalog items with blueprints more complex than virtual machines ?
I have in mind :
- Docker
- Software packages (chef, ...)
- Multi-vm blueprints with advanced NSX features
- XaaS for technical components (create VLAN, ...)
Are there limitations in VRA catalog integration in SNOW?
Thanks in advance
Protection Groups and Storage vMotion
I'm using array based replication and need to balance some datastores. As I move virtual machines to different datastores, how do I minimize the work to keep the VMs in their current protection groups? Do I need to create one protection group for every group of datastores that a VM might ever live on, so that storage vmotion operations do not move a Vm out of its protection group?
