Hi All,
First, I have been searching for 2 days now for an answer to this, and although I have seen several other posts with this title, they are always for ESXi and not the free VMware Server 2. My problem seems different from those, but I'm a n00b with VMware.
I recently inheirited a troubled SBS 2010 Server (x64) using VMware Server 2.0.2 / guest OS of Server 2008 (32bit) that runs some proprietary software. The VM is up and running but, I cant connect to the console to login to the server and export the data it houses.
Here is the full VMware Remote Console login error message:
Unable to connect to the MKS: There is no VMware process running for config file D:\Virtual Machines\Server2008.vmx
Either run "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Server\x64\vmware-vmx.exe D:\Virtual Machines\Server2008.vmx" manually on the server,
or register the config file.
1) I have removed the VM from inventory (unregister reregister) several times and added it back, but no joy.
2) I've disabled Anti-Virus, tried logging in from http and https connections before trying to open the console, but I get the same message as above.
3) Remote Desktop loads, then fails with "Access Denied" although I have set GPOs to allow RDP on everything in the domain??
4) Restarted the server (host and client) + services many times in last 24 hrs
5) Downgraded my browser from 3.6.2 to FireFox 3.5.7 as I've seen has worked for others. *nothing* works on this one (so far)
Other thoughts: The VM is up and running, and network users can log in to the app it hosts and do their work. VMware Remote Console is my problem.
Thanks in advance for any guru feedback
