Can't connect printer (globally enabled, but system says globally disabled)

I got a severe problem trying to connect a printer on the guest machine.

Host: Windows Surface, Windows 8.1, VMWare Workstation Player 12.

I got "enable virtual Printers" checked on the Player->File->Preferences page.

However, when I start the host System (Win7 32bit Premium Edition), the printer icon is grayed out. When I click it and select "Connect", I get the message:

"The virtual printing feature is globally disabled on this system, and will not be enabled for this virtual machine. Failed to connect virtual device 'serial0'."

Does anyone have *any* idea what might work?

Thanks in advance for any help!
