VM Bluescreen

Hi

I have an Windows 7 image made using Acronis that I want to recover into a VM.  The PC is becoming a bit flaky and it has some legacy software on it that I want to still be able to access when I upgrade the PC to a new Windows 10 machine.  The image is from an Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3 machine which has a UEFI boot but the Sata drive is set to IDE not AHCI.  If it is set to AHCI it bluscreens on boot which is what I am seeing in my VM's.

The method I have used is to create a new VM and then boot to the acronis disk to restore the image to the VM.  I have tried various configuration for the VM but I can not get it to boot.  If I select BIOS boot for the VM and choose either a SCSI or IDE Drive for the image it bluescreens as it does if I try to boot with the Sata drive set to AHCI on the actual PC.  If I restore the image to a VM where I have chose UEFI as the boot method it does not recognise there is anything to boot to.  I just get an error of no media when trying to boot to SCSI drive (0.0).  I don't see anywhere in the EUFI boot manager where I can change the SATA drive type.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to where I am going wrong?

Many thanks.

Craig
