Windows 10 Start Menu delay with layout.xml

Good Morning,

We are in the process of configuring instant clones for our organization and in the master image we have set a layoutmodification.xml file within C:\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Shell folder to customize the Windows 10 Start menu.  We have a group policy set that refers to that location and modifies how the start menu looks for everyone.

Whenever someone logs into a session, it takes 3-4 mouse clicks before the start menu responds, regardless of how long you wait.  When it does respond, you can briefly see that it loads a default pre-rendered start menu before it changes to the customized start menu we created in the layout.xml.  After it references that xml the first time, the start menu becomes responsive every time it's clicked after that point.

We also have a group of folks who use instant clones within a different Desktop Pool and use writable volumes.  None of them have any issues with the start menu.  If you disable their writable volume and login to the same pool, they experience the same issue as those who do not use writable volumes.

We also created a linked clone pool without the use of the layout.xml file and did not give them a writable volume.  They do not experience this issue.  So most likely, the problem resides with the .xml file.

Has anyone else seen this issue before?
